Did you know?

Did you know that Production Grade scanners can scan up to 200 pages per minute and can be rated as high as 100,000 scans per day. These scanners cost over $50,000.

Q and Q

What is HIPAA ?

HIPAA is called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It was passed by Congress in 1996 to ensure health care companies and providers provide the necessary safety precautions when dealing with patient records. It is designed to guarantee patients’ right to access health information and control its use. Implementation of this Act was in 2003.

The Perfect Setting: Bringing Real Productivity To Scanning Workflow

When it comes to high volume scanning, speed is only part of the answer. Users quickly realize that true scanning productivity requires an intelligent system that reads documents dynamically and automates decisions so people don’t have to spend the time later. “If it takes two minutes to scan a set of documents, but ten plus minutes for an operator to physically look at the images and verify whether they are useable, where’s the productivity gain?” asks Scott Burczyk, Director of Product Marketing, Imaging Business Machines, LLC.

When captured images are too light or too dark, data capture and extraction processes will not be able to use the image. Images may have to be rescanned, or operators must examine multiple versions of a scanned document to manually select the best image. It adds time that can affect SLA commitments, downstream workflow, staffing requirements, and accurate data capture.

As BPO and other imaging operations seek greater productivity; new technologies like DynamicTIFF offer real breakthroughs. Currently available exclusively on IBML ImageTrac® scanners, DynamicTIFF™ is unlike anything else on the market. Other solutions can modulate images, but DynamicTIFF actually works inline at the point of processing to solve the problem of poor capture of light and dark images.

Inside the DBX Community

Spotsylvania County Code Administration stores with DBX.

The Code Administration Department of Spotsylvania County Virginia was utilizing 5 self storage units to hold critical documents and maps of the county. Approximately 1000 boxes contained the departments back files which were stored in 5 separate storage units in 1 location and in their Marshall Building located 10 miles away.

With the big scanning project that DBX is performing for the department, there was a need to consolidate their boxed paper into one location to improve access and retrieval of their information. DBX offered to consolidate the 2 locations into the DBX Warehouse, thus expediting the scanning project and saving the county $6,000.00 in storage costs annually. Now the county can call DBX to find files quickly and easily, thus servicing the counties customers in a more timely fashion.

Care and Feeding

Here are some tips to take note when sending your documents out to be scanned.

  • Use an appropriately sized box to contain papers.  Too much empty space equals bent corners and jumbled files!

  • Use binder clamps to hold large documents together rather than rubber bands.  Your document stands a much better chance of surviving any trips!

OFF TO SCHOOL!

It’s that time of year again. Kids are going back to school and your older ones are heading off to college. You worry about your kids leaving home, college bills are added on to your already existing bills, and you start thinking, “I hope he/she makes it through”. That’s where I’m at. My oldest is heading off to college to learn all those things that we did when we went. I see a doctor’s appointment coming on after I think about this.

With going to college requires the proper equipment, i.e. a laptop. You see the many ads on TV about the new features and styles of laptops. I bought my son a DELL Inspiron 1400 and something. It was loaded with Windows Vista and all the standard software you can think of. And it came in different colors so my son picked BLACK. COOL!

Now that your kids are leaving the nest to embark on an endless journey on the internet super highway with their very own laptop, it’s essential to inform them on how to keep it clean and virus free. So I sat down with my son and showed him how to scan the laptop for viruses, set up scheduled scans and of course, “MAKE SURE YOUR VIRUS DEFINITIONS ARE UP TO DATE”. If you fail to keep them up to date, every Trojan, virus, worm, etc will make their way into your laptop without you even noticing. I have been using Norton Internet Security with the personal machines and Symantec Antivirus for the business machines. This software has been very good to me over the years so I made sure I introduced my son to it. Be nice to it and it will be nice to you. Now all I have to do is pay for the Tuition.
